Things to Know Before Off-Roading in New Zealand
- Respect the Environment: New Zealand is known for its natural beauty. When off-roading, stay on designated tracks and trails to minimise environmental impact. Respect wildlife, plants, and the local ecosystem.
- Check for Permits: Some off-road areas may require permits. Make sure you obtain a permit before heading out (If it is needed). This helps regulate and manage the impact on the environment and ensures safety.
- Weather Conditions: New Zealand’s weather can be unpredictable. Check the weather forecast before your trip. Although rain can be quite fun at times when off-roading, getting stuck in a remote location is not. Be prepared for all situations.
- Emergency Preparedness: Off-road areas can be remote, so be prepared for emergencies. Carry a first aid kit, communication devices, extra food, water, and clothing. Inform someone about your plans and expected return time.
